Much of the complexity of human behavior and cognition has evolved from our need to interact, cooperate, and communicate within complex social groups. The main goal of this project is to understand how fundamental cognitive functions, like perception, selective attention, action planning, and decision-making, contribute to social interactions at the behavioral and neuronal level. The investigation of these functions would be in the context of dynamic interactions and decision-making between two or more individuals (Cognition of Interaction).
In these interactive dyadic settings, the project will investigate the anticipation and representation of others’ intended actions, the partner choice, and social learning. It will analyse the effect this has on valuation, planning, and the resulting selection of actions. It will approach the integration of these socio-cognitive capacities in a decision-making framework, inspired by economics as well as behavioural biology and ecology.
The project focuses in three main areas of investigation:
Thus, the aim of the project is to achieve an integrative understanding of sensory, inferential, and choice-related aspects of the Cognition of Interaction.
The role of the GWDG in the consortium is to provide integrated research data management and processing solutions for the participating projects.
Specicially, we focus on the following two technical solutions:
Cross-Project Research Database: Using the individual database approaches from the CRC’s field projects as a foundation, we design a cross-project integrated data model, and implement the respective database. Video Processing Pipeline: Nine projects of the CRC produce video data as part of their research. The video processing pipeline, connects these local data sources with GPU based central high-performance computing systems, and using deep learning neural networks provids offline pre- and post-processing of the data, along with prediction capabilities.
In addition to the above technical solutions, the GWDG provides consultation, support and training on research data management for the other members of the CRC1528 consortium. This is done in close collaboration with the Göttingen eResearch Alliance, which is the central service offering support for those topics to all members of the Göttingen Campus.
